Perhaps one of the most beautiful and captivating cities in Morocco, it wouldn't be a complete trip to Northern Africa without exploring Marrakech! Marrakesh is a fabulous city, filled with wonder and charm, yet a lot of chaos and intimidation - especially if this is your first time visiting. It is an old ancient city (around 1000 years old) and is home to one of the largest Medinas, some of the most gorgeous architecture you'll find anywhere in the world, and of course, it is considered to be an absolute shopper's paradise. There is so much to see and do in this amazing city, so whether you are just passing through, or you plan on spending a few days here, there will always be something to keep you occupied. Below I will provide a brief outline on the highlights of Marrakesh including accommodations, where to eat, and places to visit. ACCOMODATION IN marrakech2CIELS BOUTIQUE HOTEL Location: Rue Oued EL Makhazine, Angle Rue Imam Chafai, Marrakesh, Morocco Cost: 1 room starts at about $125 per night **** 4 STAR HOTEL Website: https://2ciels.com TOP PLACES TO EAT IN marrakechUnlike Fes, I was more willing to try new eateries while I was in Marrakech. Although the hotel offered a variety of food choices at all hours of the night, there were so many places to explore around the surrounding area. As a first time visitor, finding a good (and lets be honest - safe) place to eat can become a little overwhelming. There are endless options to choose from, and deciphering between the good, and well, not so good, can often become tedious. Below I will provide a list of some of the top rated eateries in Marrakech (both from which I ate at and also that come highly recommended by others): -NOMAD -JEMAA EL FNA -COMPTOIR DARNA -LIMONI -GRANDE CAFE DE LA POSTE -DAR MOHA -AL FASSIA -LE FONDOUK -PEPE NERO -TOBSIL TOP THINGS TO DO AND SEE IN marrakech*BEN YOUSSEF MOSQUE The oldest and most important mosque in the city, no visit to Marrakech is complete with a visit to the beautiful Ben Youssef Mosque. *JEMMA EL-FNAA This central square and marketplace in Marrakech and its history goes back almost 1,000 years. You will find a mix of ancient customs and modern tourist experiences. The square is usually filled with food stalls, local goods vendors, snake charmers, henna artists, and men with chained Barbary apes. *BADII PALACE A 16th century grand palace that is now in a fairly ruined state in central Marrakesh. A visit here still gives you a good sense of the grand size of the structure and there are typically art exhibits inside as well. *MAJORELLE GARDEN This garden is known for its large collection of exotic plants from all over the world and is actually quite picturesque. The garden also contains a Berber Museum which can be visited with a separate entrance fee. *SHOP IN THE SOUKS The souks are the traditional markets of central Marrakech where a dizzying number of shops and stalls sell everything from shoes to handbags to lanterns to tea sets.
